Getting to St Barth & Villa ONLY VIEW

Four nearby hubs, 10-minute flights, and the world's most scenic airport landing. Your journey to paradise is easier than you think.

Saint-Barthelemy (IATA: SBH) has no direct international flights — the island's Gustaf III Airport features one of the shortest commercial runways in the world at just 646 meters (2,119 ft), perched between the steep Col de la Tourmente hilltop and the turquoise waters of St Jean Bay. Only small aircraft (19 seats maximum) can land here, which is part of what keeps St Barth exclusive and uncrowded. But getting here is easier than you think. Four nearby Caribbean hub airports — St Martin (SXM), San Juan (SJU), Guadeloupe (PTP), and Antigua (ANU) — connect to SBH via 10-15 minute inter-island flights or a scenic 45-minute ferry ride across calm waters. Villa ONLY VIEW in Pointe Milou is just a 10-minute drive from the airport along the coastal road, and your dedicated concierge helps plan every step of the journey — from flight bookings to rental car pickup at the terminal.

Step 1

Fly to a Hub Airport

Princess Juliana (SXM), St Martin Most Popular

Princess Juliana (SXM), St Martin

The most popular gateway to St Barth, handling over 80% of connecting passengers. Direct flights arrive from New York JFK (4h), Newark EWR (4h), Miami MIA (3.5h), Charlotte CLT (3.5h), Paris CDG (8.5h), and Amsterdam AMS (9h) on carriers including American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta, Air France, and KLM. From SXM, take a 10-minute hop to SBH via WinAir or St Barth Commuter — flights depart every 30-60 minutes during high season. Ferry service is also available from Marigot (French side) and Philipsburg (Dutch side).

Luis Munoz Marin (SJU), San Juan Best for US East Coast

Luis Munoz Marin (SJU), San Juan

The best option for US East Coast travelers who want a seamless journey. San Juan receives dozens of daily nonstop flights from most major US cities — JFK (3.5h), Miami (2.5h), Boston (4h), Washington DCA (4h), Atlanta (4h). From SJU, Tradewind Aviation operates direct turbo-prop flights to SBH in just 45 minutes aboard comfortable Pilatus PC-12 aircraft (8 seats) with stunning aerial views of the Caribbean archipelago. Tradewind also offers private charter options for flexible scheduling.

Pole Caraibes (PTP), Guadeloupe Best for Europeans

Pole Caraibes (PTP), Guadeloupe

The ideal gateway for European travelers. Paris Orly and CDG offer daily nonstop flights to Guadeloupe (8.5h) on Air France, Air Caraibes, and Corsair. Air Antilles then connects PTP to SBH in 45 minutes with several weekly departures. Key advantage: St Barth and Guadeloupe are both French overseas territories in the same customs zone — no additional immigration or passport checks upon arrival in St Barth. European citizens can travel with just an EU ID card.

V.C. Bird International (ANU), Antigua Caribbean Gateway

V.C. Bird International (ANU), Antigua

A major Caribbean hub with direct flights from New York JFK (4h), Miami (3.5h), London Gatwick (8.5h on British Airways), Toronto (4.5h on Air Canada), and Atlanta (4h). Airlines serving Antigua include American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta, British Airways, and Air Canada. From Antigua, connect to SXM via inter-island flights (approx. 40 minutes), then take the 10-minute hop to SBH. Private charter flights can also fly direct from ANU to SBH. Antigua is an excellent alternative for British travelers thanks to direct BA flights from London Gatwick, and for those combining a St Barth stay with an Antiguan beach holiday.

Step 2

Connect to SBH

By Air

St Barth Commuter and WinAir (both from SXM, 10 min each way) operate the most frequent inter-island service, with departures every 20-60 minutes during high season (December through April) and hourly during summer. Tradewind Aviation flies from SJU (45 min) and SXM (10 min) on their Pilatus PC-12 turboprops. Air Antilles connects from PTP, Guadeloupe (45 min). Luggage allowance varies by carrier — typically 20-30 kg checked plus a carry-on — but we recommend packing in soft-sided bags for easier handling on smaller aircraft. Your Villa ONLY VIEW concierge can book all inter-island flights on your behalf and coordinate connections with your international arrival times.

By Ferry

Voyager and Great Bay Express operate daily ferry services from Marigot (French St Martin) and Philipsburg (Dutch St Maarten) to the port of Gustavia. The crossing takes approximately 45 minutes with 3-5 departures per day depending on the season. One-way tickets cost approximately €60-90 per adult. The ferry route passes pristine Caribbean islands and is a beautiful way to arrive — particularly scenic at sunset. Note: the ferry can be rough in choppy conditions, so motion-sensitive travelers may prefer the 10-minute flight.

Step 3

Airport to Villa

Gustaf III Airport (SBH) is famous for its dramatic approach: pilots descend sharply over the Col de la Tourmente hilltop, clear a road where traffic must stop for each landing, and touch down on the 646-meter runway that ends at the edge of St Jean Bay. It's widely regarded as one of the most exhilarating airport landings in the world — and an unforgettable start to your holiday. The small terminal has no jet bridges or baggage carousels; you walk across the tarmac and collect bags in the open-air terminal. Villa ONLY VIEW in Pointe Milou is just 10 minutes north along the coastal road. Your concierge pre-arranges a rental car to be waiting at the terminal with keys at the agency desk, so you can drive directly to the villa and begin your vacation without delay. If you prefer, a private transfer with driver can also be arranged.

Car Rental Tips

  • Rent at the airport: Budget, Avis, Hertz, and reputable local agencies like TopLoc and Barthloc available on arrival
  • 4WD or SUV strongly recommended — St Barth's hillside roads are steep (up to 20% grade) and narrow with sharp switchbacks
  • Driving on the right, French traffic rules apply. Speed limit is 30-50 km/h across the island
  • The island is just 25 km2 (9.7 sq mi) — the farthest beach is a 20-minute drive from the villa
  • Two fuel stations on the island: one in Lorient and one near St Jean roundabout
  • Private gated parking at Villa ONLY VIEW for 2 vehicles, with easy turnaround space

Practical Information

  • No customs or immigration formalities — St Barth is a French overseas collectivity (EU territory)
  • Currency: Euro (€). US dollars widely accepted at shops and restaurants, though change is given in euros
  • Electrical plugs: European Type C/E, 220V/50Hz (universal adapters provided at the villa)

  • Time zone: AST (UTC-4) year-round, no daylight saving time. Same as New York in winter, 1 hour behind in summer
  • Mobile: French carriers (Orange, SFR, Free) work natively. EU roaming included. US/international roaming works with most providers
