Everything you need to know about driving, parking, and getting a taxi on the island.
Saint-Barthelemy is a small island — just 25 km² — so getting around is straightforward once you know the basics. Most visitors rent a car for the duration of their stay. Roads are narrow, hilly, and occasionally steep, but distances are short: the furthest point on the island is never more than 15 minutes away. Villa ONLY VIEW in Pointe Milou has a flat driveway and generous private parking, so any vehicle — from a compact Smart car to a full-size SUV — fits comfortably.
A rental car is the most practical way to explore St Barth. Several agencies operate near the airport and in Gustavia. You can reserve in advance (recommended during high season, December–April) or arrange pickup on arrival. A valid driver's license is all you need — no international permit required for most nationalities. Automatic transmission, air conditioning, and insurance are standard. Compact cars and Jeeps are the most popular choices. Roads are well-maintained but narrow with steep hills — a small SUV or Jeep offers extra confidence on the steepest sections. Drive on the right. Speed limit is 30-45 km/h depending on the area.
Unlike many St Barth villas perched on steep hillsides with difficult access, Villa ONLY VIEW in Pointe Milou features a flat, paved driveway and spacious private parking area. Any rental vehicle fits comfortably — you don't need a 4x4 to reach the villa. This makes arriving with luggage, groceries, or beach gear completely effortless. The villa is a 5-minute drive from Gustavia and 10 minutes from the airport.
Taxis are available island-wide. There is no Uber or ride-hailing app — you call a driver directly. Below is the complete directory of licensed taxi drivers in Saint-Barthelemy. Save a few numbers in your phone for easy access during your stay.
The Villa ONLY VIEW concierge can arrange airport transfers, car rentals, and taxi bookings before your arrival.
